STAFF REFLECTIONS DURING THE PROCESS

“ I feel that I have been given the opportunity to shine and demonstrate that I have much more to offer the organization”.

Visioneers and Discoverers commented positively from the start of this research process, on being and feeling empowered.

For example when asked what motivated you to join,to participate in this strategy building, many replied similarly:

(This was) “ an opportunity to shape the future and one too good to pass up. Why would you not want to be involved?”

Some have also described their involvement as energising and even liberating.

I felt valued… I was an equal within the first few hours… At this point I came into my own and my ideas and passion came into flow. (It) felt like I was released from a box”.

THE CHALLENGE OF RELATING AND WORKING IN THIS WAY.

It appears that this way of working is also very challenging and involves for example being willing

"to be robustly challenged and respond to feedback positively".

This dialoging approach to feedback and challenge was previously developed through development training, as a core relational skill at the organization: Please refer to the following summary. 7cs Relational Leadership Practice under the heading Key Information.

CONDITIONS FOR MAKING THIS WAY OF WORKING A SUCCESS

Participants involved in the co-creation of the strategic vision have also stressed the importance of some key ‘relational’ requirements to make this sort of collaboration work, referring to “ trust”, “respect”, “ honest(y)” and “confidence” as essential, to authentically work in this way.
