Staff present the 2023 strategy vision to the Board.

" The reaction of the board was great...ultimately, I feel the session was able to demonstrate not just our vision but our commitment .....   A board 'taster' of reality for staff within an organisation, where both the staff and the board are engaged with one another."

At 1.30 on Friday November 24th 2017 an unprecedented event was happening. A group of staff, "Visioneers" and "Discoverers", were interviewed by the Group Director for People and Culture. Here, for the first time, they publicly shared their draft strategic vision for their Housing group, in front of their full Executive Team and their Non-Executive Board. These senior leaders in turn undertook to review these findings in detail and offer their updates in early 2018, in what was described as a collaborative approach to strategic planning and which had not occurred in this way previously.

The Board were extremely pleased with the quality of the plans, which they felt were enriched by the work undertaken by this group. The strategic plan was subsequently, formally launched to all staff in March 2018.

STAFF COMMENTING ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCE OF PRESENTING THE STRATEGY.

" It was a completely different, alien experience to present in the way we did but it had so much more impact because of the way in which it was delivered. It really allowed for the true passion and commitment to shine through, whereas in a traditional presentation this may get lost or be stifled" (Discoverer).

"A unique experience between staff members & Board, where Board are genuinely interested in staff views for futures direction of the business.......A feedback and deepening / questioning of knowledge, where the subjects can be robustly challenged and the staff have the knwoledge and diligence to answer anything that's sent in their direction". (Visioneer).
